New Padre for Durham ACF

18 March 2013

Durham Army Cadet Force has a new Chaplain or Padre.

The Reverend Michael Volland trains vicars at St John's College in Durham. He is married to Rachel and they have three children; Hannah, Reuben and Tom. Before coming to Durham Michael worked as a priest in Gloucester. As a teenager Michael was a corporal in the Berkshire ACF. He was a keen athlete and won silver in the Cadet County Athletics Championships at Sandhurst in the 100 and 200 metres, and was selected to represent the County at national level. Michael also spent a brief time in the TA. In his spare time he enjoys fell walking with his family and surfing in the North Sea!

He has just been issued with his kit and spent his first weekend training with Durham Army Cadets and is looking forward to Annual Camp at Warcop.

A Chaplain is just like the Minister or Priest or Vicar at any Church or Chapel near your home, in fact he or she may even live near you but they have taken on extra duties to care for a Cadet unit.   The Air, Sea and Army Cadets are always looking for Chaplains, if you know one near you who would like to extend their ministry working alongside cadets, then why not talk to them and introduce them to your unit?
