The Eastern region team took the top prize in this year’s National Athletics Championships in Grantham on Saturday 6 June.
Eight regional teams (from England, Scotland and Wales) and over 400 competitors took part in the event at The Meres Sports Stadium cheered on by a large crowd of well wishers.
The top teams were Eastern (first – 541.5 points), North East (second – 523 points) and London (third – 433.5 points).
On top of the team winners, four new records were set this year:
L Cpl Staples from Sussex (South East) threw 54.56 metres in the Javelin (Class B – Intermediate Boys)
Cdt Rusdale from Nottinghamshire (Eastern) ran the 300 metres in 47.38 seconds (Class D – Junior Girls)
Cdt Awauh from South East London(London) ran the 300 metres in 45.60 seconds (Class E – Intermediate Girls)
Sgt Nassar from Northumbria (North East) jumped 4.65 metres in the Long Jump (Class F – Senior Girls)
Commenting on the event, Lt Col Terry Hayter (National Sports and Liaison Officer at the ACFA) said: “I’d like to congratulate everyone who took part. Everyone, from the competitors to the team managers and the officials running the event, were highly professional and a great day was had by all."
“The ACF does a great job in encouraging sporting excellence and I’m looking forward to seeing even more competitors and more records broken next year.”
