SENIOR CADET INSTRUCTOR COURSE (SCIC)

Hard work and determination during recent half term for 5 of our Senior Cadets.

SENIOR CADET INSTRUCTOR COURSE (SCIC)

6 March 2024

  • Dyfed And Glamorgan ACF

During the recent half term holidays in February 2024, 5 of our seniors cadets from across the County gave up their free time to attend the Senior Cadet Instructor Course (SCIC) held in Cwrt-y-Gollen, Crickhowell.

The 160th (Welsh) Brigade Cadet Training Team delivered the course for over 20 cadets from across Wales.

The Senior Cadet Instructor Cadre is a 4-Star optional subject designed to increase the knowledge of the techniques of instruction, first introduced on the Junior Cadet Instructor Cadre (JCIC) and give early experience of the art of leadership.

To qualify for the SCIC, Cadets must have sound knowledge of all subjects up to and including 3-Star level and must have proved, by their performance on the Junior Cadet Instructor Cadre, that they are a potential instructor.

During the week the cadets learnt how to instruct up to and including 2-Star standard cadets in drill, turnout and military knowledge; skill-at-arms; fieldcraft; and navigation.

They were pushed to their limits through teaching assessments and a challenging fieldcraft exercise.

In the build-up to the course, the cadets had planned, prepared, and practiced their theory and practical lessons in order to be assessed on the course.

At the start of the course, they were taken through classroom lesson construction and began the course assessments with their theory lessons. Mid-week were the skills lessons and assesments, and on the Wednesday evening, a Night Recce was conducted on an enemy with illumination flares for Intel, which led to the section attacks on Thursday to eliminate the enemy utilising smoke and blank rounds.

Once all of the training and assessments were completed, they all celebrated with a hard earned Mcdonald's, and had a final debrief on Friday.

Congratulations on the successful completion of the course.
