Weapons Handling Skills
Starting at the basic level with air rifles, you’ll progress to becoming an expert in the operation and safe handling of the Cadet General Purpose rifle.
You’ll get the chance to use a variety of weapons and learn key disciplines, like target shooting, rifle drills, shooting on rifle ranges, clay shooting, and the practical use and care of rifles during fieldcraft exercises.
Further Information on Weapon Handling
All aspects of safety both to yourself and others will be taught before you are even allowed to handle a weapon. You’ll receive training on:
- Weapon safety protocols: Understanding how to handle weapons responsibly to prevent accidents.
- Hearing protection: Learning the importance of safeguarding your hearing during shooting exercises.
- Situational awareness: Being mindful of your surroundings to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
You will also have to pass a weapons handling test which shows that you have the skills and knowledge to safely handle a weapon.
All handling and use of weapons or ammunition in the Army Cadets is directly supervised by adult instructors who have received in-depth training as part of their induction process.
