Day 1 People, a consultancy firm specialising in the defence, space, and telecommunications industries, and based locally near our Corsham detachment, expressed a desire to extend their assistance to the local Army cadets. Following several deliberations on how best to support the Corsham Detachment, they became aware of the detachment's fundraising efforts to acquire an automated external defibrillator (AED). Subsequently, the company kindly volunteered to procure one for them.

Not only will this benefit Corsham Army Cadets. As the detachment has shared facilities with Corsham (1304 Rudloe Manor DF) RAF Air Cadets. This will be mounted in the detachment and accessible to all who use the facility.

In addition to their generous donation of the AED, they are collaborating with Detachment Commander SMI Phill Rice and his team to explore ways to leverage their company's expertise to benefit our cadets. Operating as a consultancy firm primarily within the UK Government sector, their specialisation includes Defence, Space, and Telecommunications. They engage with Primes and SMEs to facilitate procurement, bidding processes, and in-service delivery. Leveraging this expertise, our cadets will have access to employment workshops, leadership development sessions, interview preparation, and CV writing workshops. These initiatives aim to equip our cadets with essential skills as they navigate their future career paths.

On the evening of February 21, 2024, the CEO, Andrew King, along with Consultants Sophie Truman and Harry Obeney, convened to present the AED to the detachment. CEO Andrew King, a former Royal Engineer Commando Bomb Disposal Officer, highlighted the company's active participation in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme. After attaining the Bronze award two years ago and more recently securing the Silver Award, the company now aspires to achieve the prestigious Gold Award. With a workforce comprising 26 individuals, a substantial percentage boasts military backgrounds.

The Covenant promotes fair treatment and support for the armed forces community in accessing employment opportunities. Day 1 Peoples updated HR Policy underpins a commitment to inclusivity by ensuring that every applicant with a military background, whether Ex-Military, CFAV, or Cadet, receives a guaranteed interview for any vacant job position. This initiative exemplifies the company's dedication to supporting veterans and the broader military community.

Andrew, Sophie and Harry, on behalf of the Detachment, were presented with a certificate of recognition and thanks by Cdt L/Cpl Mburu, Watson and SMI Rice

DC SMI Phill Rice said

"It has been an absolute pleasure meeting the team from Day 1 People and listening to their ideas on how they can support the Corsham Army Cadets.

I am truly grateful for their procurement of the AED for the Detachment, we had only started our fundraising campaign a few weeks prior after I had made it a personnel goal for the detachment to acquire one. This will be a valuable asset to the Corsham Army Cadets and also the Air Cadets that also share the use of our Detachment.

I am looking forward to welcoming them back into the Detachment in the near future to continue their fantastic work."
