Established in 1989, the Master Cadet Course is designed to further develop the leadership, instructional, and administrative skills of 4-star cadets, enhancing their overall capabilities. This is the pinnacle of the courses in the Army Cadets, this is part of the qualification to reach Master Cadet, the highest star level available to cadet. Only achieved by a select group each year.

The course comprises of a mixture of fieldcraft, physical, mental and leadership challenges.

Successful completion of the Master Cadet Course qualifies cadets for consideration for achievement of Master Cadet, the highest star grade in the Army Cadets. Master Cadet is at the discretion of the ACF County Commandant , attitude, values and commitment are also considered in the awarding of Master Cadet.

To be appointed at a county Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major you must have been awarded Master Cadet.

The course is open to all 4-star cadets with the recommendation of their ACF Commandant or CCF Contingent Commander, providing they have completed 4-star and hold the rank of Cadet Sergeant or above. Cadets must be 16 years of age or over.

Requirements for attending the Master Cadet Course

The following prerequisites apply:

  • Weapons Handling Test (WHT) on the L98A2 Cadet GP Rifle.

Recommended preparation for attending the Master Cadet Course

It is recommended that students also undertake the following before attending the course:

  • Have a level of fitness that will enable them to take part in four days/nights in the field, a log run and an obstacle course.
  • Have a good understanding of Section Battle Drills.
  • Know how to navigate using an OS map during the day and at night.
  • Have undertaken 4-star Fieldcraft
