The Music Staff Cadet Diaries
We have yet another addition to the G&P Staff Cadets today, as we welcome in Zoe Brown and wish her a happy 18th birthday! Zoe was a late starter to cadets, joining just under 18 months ago, but has proven herself to be an incredibly skilful member of the Band and Drums.
Staff Cadet Sergeant Zoe Brown
Zoe is an accomplished musician, and began playing at the tender age of 7 on the recorder. A couple of years later, she moved onto flute which has become her principal instrument. During her musical career, Zoe has played for the Shropshire Training Wind Ensemble, Youth Wind Orchestra, and has the accolade of being the youngest member of the Jazz Ensemble when she joined, being over 5 years younger than her fellow musicians! She was honoured to conduct the Youth Wind Orchestra at the Annual Gala Concert at Theatre Severn aged just 14!
Zoe also took up the piccolo (the instrument she plays ‘on the march’) and became principal flautist and piccolo aged 15. She has been on tour to Germany and New York, played as a guest in professional orchestras, and played in a semi-professional ‘pit band’ for a theatre production of ‘Sunset Boulevard’, when she also got the opportunity to try out the alto flute. Zoe passed her Grade 8 flute in April 2019 and also plays the saxophone and clarinet. She is currently working on passing her ARSM Diploma on flute and Grade 5 piano before going to university to study dentistry.
Zoe joined G&P in September 2019 and attended her first music camp less than a month later. In January last year, she was honoured to play with the Band and Drums for the National Commandants’ Conference at Sandhurst, and states that it is the best thing that she has ever done! Even though she is a relatively new member, she has become a key player and part of the close knit group that the band has become. Zoe is determined to complete her 4* Military Band award, and take advantage of every opportunity that the ACF offers her. She is a determined and focused young lady who definitely has the world at her feet.
Congratulations Staff Cadet Sergeant Zoe Brown, and a very happy 18th birthday!
