The Return of the Seniors!
This weekend saw the Senior Company return to training with the very first overnight camp for cadets since restrictions began 18 months ago!
The newly renamed ‘Waterloo Training Company’ hosted a group of senior cadets on the first overnight experience at Greenfields, on the Cwrt-y-Gollen Training Camp, to begin revision preparations for their Summer Camp in August. It’s been a long time since the open spaces of CYG have echoed with the sounds of excited cadets, but it was definitely a welcoming and incredibly heartwarming feeling to have them back on site and getting stuck in. The seniors certainly made the most of the weekend, with a package of navigation training on the cards to support in preparing the youngsters for their 3* Navigation Assessment in the Summer. Although training has continued through virtual platforms, and adults have used every trick in the book to make the training as exciting and engaging as possible, there is nothing like being back together, face-to-face, getting stuck in and doing it for real.
The training went right back to basics, for even though those attending are experienced cadets, it has been a while since they had the opportunity to take part in the practical aspects of navigation, and so it was important to revisit and refresh skills. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect as the group slept out under the stars, worked as teams to plan and prepare routines, and then got out there in the sunshine to demonstrate their skill. Both the adults and cadets had an amazing time and absolutely loved being back together.
The success of this weekend is paving the way for others, with Training Companies and Home Companies all planning their own Summer Camps. We would like to say a huge thank you to the team who put this weekend package together - out there at the forefront and leading the way!
There is still plenty of opportunity to get involved - why not get in touch to find out more? You never know, we might be just what you’re looking for!
