The highlight of the visit for the cadets was a tour of the rescue helicopter, where they had the opportunity to see around the inside and outside of the aircraft, with technicians and pilots to guide them through how everything works. Following the of the helicopter the crew gave a demonstration of their ability to co-ordinate and take part in Marine Search & Rescue, in supporting a casualty evacuation. Throughout the evening the cadets also had the chance to try items of equipment and later expressed their thanks to the team for allowing them to visit.
The visit was organised as part of their Community Engagement section of the Army Cadet Syllabus. A major part of the training for any cadet is citizenship training and the topic forms part of the Army Cadets syllabus. Through participating in community projects you will build an understanding of how a community functions and the difference you can make now or in the future. In this case they were learning how the emergency services work together when needed.
