Neil, who was the husband of Major Michelle Goodwin, former OC of 'A' Company, joined YNW in 2011 and took on the post of CQMS of 'A' Company. At the same time Neil was also a member of the Reserve Forces affiliated to the RAMC.
Neil saw active service with the RAMC in Iraq. He also carried out the role of a Jackal armoured vehicle driving instructor at the Army Driver Training School at Leconfield. Lately he was attached to the QOY Squadron in York as part of their recruiting team. SSI Goodwin was a 'Volunteer' in the true sense of the word.
Neil was the ultimate Company Quarter Master Sergeant, and was always ready to help facilitate training for the Cadets of 'A' Company and, when on Annual Camp, the County. If Neil couldn't provide what was required he 'knew a man who could'!
Neil had the knack of being able to communicate with anyone, from Cadet to Brigadier. He always had an amusing anecdote or war story to tell. He will be remembered for his big smile and infectious laugh.
Neil will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of working with him, or the privilege of calling him a friend. Our thoughts are with Major Michelle and her boys at this very sad Time, also all of Neil's family, friends, colleagues and comrades.
RIP SSI Neil Goodwin, gone but never forgotten.
