It is not a commonly acknowledged fact that many of the Adult Instructors in Somerset Army Cadets had a life before Cadets! Indeed many served in the British Army before the Army Cadets calling so to highlight that fact, every year Regimental Day is celebrated when they are permitted to wear their former Regimental or Corps headdress and badge.

In Jellalabad Company SSI Kevin Relph, formerly 6th Bn The Light Infantry (6LI), Capt Glyn Lancey, formerly 1st Bn The Devonshire & Dorset Regiment (1D&D), Maj Rob Wing, formerly The Royal Hussars (Prince of Wales’s Own) (RH), 2Lt Andrew Bissett, formerly 5th Bn The Royal Green Jackets (5RGJ) and SSI Mark Rhodes, formerly 11 Regiment, Royal Corps of Signals (R SIGS) proudly wear their berets and cap badges that formed a core part of their younger days. Three of their regiments, The Light Infantry, The Royal Green Jackets and The Devonshire & Dorset Regiment (the fourth being The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Light Infantry), were also three of the four founding regiments of The Rifles formed by their amalgamation on 1st February 2007.

We celebrate them.
Swift but Old!
