On Thursday 7th March 2024, The Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed Awards were held in Carmarthen.

During the evening, a number of Certificate of Merits were presented to various individuals from the Cadets Forces by HM's Lord Lieutenant, Miss Sara Edwards. The event was hosted by the Reserve Forces and Cadet Association (RFCA) Wales.

Staff Sergeant. Kirsty Richards was presented with a Certificate of Merit for her achievements.

Kirsty joined as an Adult volunteer in December 2017, In her personal life, Kirsty is a fitness enthusiast, enjoys motorsports, and contributes to her local community in diverse ways.

Kirsty's journey began in 2012 at the young age of 12 when she joined Cardigan Detachment as a cadet. Over the years, she has risen through the ranks, achieving the remarkable distinction of becoming G Company's first female Regimental Sergeant Major and her County's second female to hold this prestigious rank. Her commitment and leadership qualities have been truly inspiring.

Throughout her cadet career, Kirsty has demonstrated a deep sense of responsibility and community spirit. She tirelessly fundraised for causes close to her heart, including the Air Ambulance Wales, St Davids Lifeboats, and the Royal British Legion of Cardigan. Her dedication also extended to raising funds for company initiatives, showcasing her selflessness and devotion.

As she transitioned into adulthood, Kirsty continued her service as a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer (CFAV) in Cardigan. During the challenging times brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, Kirsty's resilience shone through as she adapted to virtual lessons and collaborated with other detachments and the Welsh Guards, Regimental Support Team North to ensure the continued education and growth of the cadets. She even took on the role of temporary Detachment Commander in another location to ensure the cadets' uninterrupted progress.

Kirsty's commitment to personal development is evident in her pursuit of various courses and schemes outside of cadets. She has honed her skills as an instructor and gained expertise in areas such as Skill At Arms, Range and Exercise Conducting Officer.

Beyond her cadet duties, Kirsty continues to be an asset to her community. She serves as Cardigan's senior standard bearer, actively participates in fundraising efforts, and engages in various community events, such as the Remembrance of Heroes at Cardigan Castle.

Kirsty Richards embodies the values of leadership, selflessness, and dedication, making her an exemplary individual who has left an indelible mark on all those she has served.
