Over the weekend of 15-17 March 2024, Quebec Company embarked on their second training weekend of the year at Oxfordshire ACF Cadet Training Centre in Bicester. A total of 70 cadets were in attendance along with the dedicated CFAV who make these weekends happen.

Ex-Cadet Progresses to British Army

The weekend commenced with a visit from ex-Blackbird Leys cadet Ewan Baggett, who has served as a Craftsman in the British Army for the past two years. Craftsman Baggett reached the rank of Cadet CSM for Somme Company, and spoke about his experience first in the Army Cadets, and then in the Army.

Cadre Training

The cadets enjoyed a fully packed weekend, with the basic cadre undertaking training in First Aid, Skill at Arms, and Air Rifle Shooting. The 1* cadre concentrated on completing Skills at Arms on the Cadet GP rifle in readiness for their upcoming field exercise, and the senior cadre first spent a day on the range, completing their 2* shoot on the Cadet Small Bore Target Rifle (CSBTR) and then had the opportunity to practice their 2* drill.

Cadet Promotions and Presentations

In Army Cadets those who continue to achieve are recognised for their efforts. Oxfordshire ACF celebrate awards yearly and companies celebrate their own success on a local level. Officer in Command, Major Hood, was pleased to promote the following cadets:

Cadet to Lance Corporal

Cdt Free (Abingdon)

Cdt Tinkler (Abingdon)

Lance Corporal to Corporal

L/Cpl Buckle (Abingdon)

L/Cpl Spurgeon (Abingdon)

Additionally, Cadet Cook was promoted to Corporal and awarded a Quebec Company coin for his contribution to the company. Cadet Cook joined cadets from Canada, where he held the rank of Warrant Officer in the Royal Canadian Army Cadets, and returns back to Canada with everyone’s best wishes for the future.

Quebec Company also said goodbye to Lance Corporal Friedrichs from Headington detachment, who turns 18 and will be leaving the ACF.

Future Training

Quebec Company looked forward to their next weekend taking place on the 28-30 June 2024, which will be a field weekend.
