Lord Lieutenant Recognises Cadets and Volunteers

Members of the Battalion have been recognised by the Lord Lieutenant of Inverness for their service to the Young People of the Highlands.

Colonel Michael Anderson (48), Captain Debra Ennis (57) and Corporal Jack Bryson (17) received presentations from the Lord Lieutenant of Inverness James Wotherspoon last Tuesday Culloden Cadet Centre.

Col Anderson, who is the Battalion’s Commandant, received a Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate of Meritorious Service. Michael joined the Army Cadet Force in 1996 with Cleveland Army Cadet Force, later joining Durham Army Cadet Force and then transferred to 1 Highlanders in 2014. Throughout his time with the Army Cadets Col Anderson has held several appointments both at a local level, from Company Training Officer for the Battalion’s Ross Company and Battalion Training Major where he was responsible for the planning of the Battalion’s Annual Summer Camp, to also holding appointments at a National Level, such as being Deputy President of the Cadet Force Commissioning Board where he was responsible for helping in delivering the training and selection of Adult Instructors who wished to become Commissioning Officers with the Army Cadets. Michael was appointed as the Battalion’s Commandant in February this year.

Capt Ennis, who is the assistant Battalion Training Officer, also was presented with a Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate of Meritorious Service. Debra has been with the Battalion since 2014, where she initially joined Aviemore Detachment and later appointed as the Detachment’s Commander in February 2018. Due to working commitments Debra was transferred to Inverness Detachment as it’s Commander. Capt Ennis has also held Battalion appointments, she was the Battalion’s Sports Officer from 2018 to March this year and during this time she was responsible for the organising the logistics of the cadets from attending Scottish and National Army Cadet Sporting Events and also the planning of the various sporting competitions at the Battalion’s Annual two week Camp in the Summer. As assistant Battalion Training Officer Debra assists the Training Officer in the planning and training of Camp.

Cpl Bryson, from Culloden Detachment, received his certificate of appointment as the new Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet of Inverness-shire. Jack joined the Army Cadets in 2018 with Moray Company’s Ardersier Detachment, later transferring to the Company’s Culloden Detachment. Cpl Bryson is currently working towards completing his 2 Star training in the Army Cadet Syllabus, which he should complete fully by the end of the Battalion’s Summer Camp. As Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet Jack will assist the Lord Lieutenant in his official capacity as His Majesty The King’s appointed representative of Inverness-shire.

All three Lord Lieutenant’s Presentations took place infront of the cadets of Culloden Detachment at Culloden Cadet Centre on Keppoch Road.
