On Thursday 22nd February 2024, The Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan Awards were held at HMS Cambria in Cardiff.

During the evening, a number of Certificate of Merits were presented to various individuals from the Reserves and Cadets Forces by HM's Lord Lieutenant, Mrs Morfudd Meredith. The event was hosted by the Reserve Forces and Cadet Association (RFCA) Wales.

Our very own, Staff Sergeant Instructor (SSI). Richard Cooper was one of the recipients of this certificate.

Staff Sergeant. Richard Cooper of A Company, Dyfed and Glamorgan, embarked on his journey with the Army Cadet Force in 2014 and quickly rose through the ranks, earning his qualification in 2015.

He is a loving partner to Stacey and a devoted father of two daughters. In his civilian life, he is an accomplished engineer in Cardiff, further highlighting his versatility and dedication.

In his role as a Detachment Commander, Richard consistently demonstrated a commitment to professional development. He completed both his adult leadership and management course and the prestigious King George VI in 2022, showcasing his determination to excel in his volunteer role. Richard has held the role of Detachment Commander in 3 locations.

His commitment to excellence led to his promotion to Staff Sergeant in 2017, a testament to his exceptional leadership skills.

Staff Sergeant Cooper possesses an impressive array of qualifications, including Skill at Arms, range expertise, and first aid proficiency, which he tirelessly imparts to cadets and fellow volunteers. His proficiency in Skill at Arms and Range qualifications makes him an invaluable asset to the Company, significantly aiding cadet progression. Moreover, his lifeguard experience allows him to conduct swim tests for cadets at no cost to the organization, showcasing his diverse skill set.

Richard's commitment to lifesaving skills is evident through his role as the County First Aid Training Advisor. His enthusiasm for teaching this critical skill benefits Dyfed and Glamorgan Army Cadet Force, further underlining his selfless dedication.

Together with his partner Stacey, the Coopers are a remarkable force for good, contributing immeasurably to A Company and the wider County. Their unwavering support, dedication, and selflessness deserve recognition, and it would be a privilege to see them celebrate this award together.

In conclusion, Staff Sergeant Richard Cooper's exemplary service, both in his professional and volunteer capacities, makes him a truly deserving candidate for the Certificate of Merit.
