The visit, which took place on Tuesday 28 November, saw the Lord Lieutenant of Shetland, Bobby Hunter, visit Fort Charlotte to present awards to cadets of Lerwick Detachment.
Two Army Cadet Syllabus Certificates were presented to Cadet Kerryn Kane, who presented with her Basic Star certificate and Air Rifle badge, and Lance Bombardier Stephen Laurenson who received his 2 Star certificate. St John’s Ambulance Youth First Aid Certificates were presented to Cadet Liam Fullerton, Cadet Leighton Mullay, Cadet Hope Williamson, Cadet Ria Pearson and Cadet Hannah Wishart. The Youth First Aid award is a nationally recognised qualification and recognises those competent to give first aid in an emergency.
Cadet Sergeant Major Danni Crehan was also presented with her Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Danni has also recently passed her Gold DofE and will be presented with her Gold award at a ceremony in Holyrood Palace in June 2024. Danni is the first cadet from Orkney & Shetland Battery to pass Bronze, Silver and Gold DofE Awards.
Former Shetland Commandant and Honorary Colonel John Taylor QGM was also in attendance. The presentations were followed by refreshments in the mess.
