A trip to Kenya? Of course L&B's very own CSM Howard, CSgt Babasola and 2Lt. McCauley did!
25 members of the ACF partook in the trip to Kenya - an experience they will never forget!
#TeamLothianandBorders took Football kits with them (thank you Football Buzz Broxburn United Sports Club, Pumpherston United and Murieston United Football Club for your donations) which meant every child at the school was given a new football kit. Books, and stationary were also taken for the school's classrooms. Kitted up, football and games were played and benches for the school were made and the Kenyan children taught us some songs and games of their own.
Lions roaring in the distance whilst sitting round the campfire before spending a night out in tents in the Safari is a far cry from Drumshoreland! Seeing the Lions, Hippos, Giraffes, Chimps, Buffalo, Rhinos and Elephants and getting up at 0530 to watch the sun come up and taking pictures on the Equator was AMAZING!
The last day at the school was emotional. We would like to thank every cadet, parent and carer who provided donations because, as the Head Teacher stated, it means that all of the clothes, shoes, sanitary products and toys would last the school practically the whole year. A final game of football was played with the students (Team UK won on penalties after a 5-5 draw). Cadets then went into the classrooms and spent time teaching lessons before some tears were shed as we said our final goodbye to the school and students.
Kenya 2023 is something that our cadets will remember for a very, very long time!
