In memoriam - Lt Col L J Williams

  • Buckinghamshire ACF

Lieutenant Colonel John Williams MBE TD died peacefully, after a short illness, on Saturday 22nd May in hospital with his family close by.

John was a member of Bucks ACF as a cadet and adult instructor for more than 50 years and was in the process of applying to come back as a CFAV due to the recent changes in the upper age limit.

John was rightfully proud that as a cadet he rose to Cadet RSM, then County RSMI. He then commissioned and, following various other appointments and having served as Bucks ACF Second in Command as a Major, was appointed to the newly established post within the Bn as its first Deputy Commandant in the rank of Lt Col.

John also served as Chairman of Bucks ACF League and latterly was appointed a Vice President of the League.

John exemplified everything about a Volunteer both as a Territorial and a Cadet Force Adult, his loss will be deeply felt across the Military, Youth and Volunteering organisations in the County.

His contribution to the youth of Buckinghamshire has been immense and his selfless commitment has been an example to us all. Our thoughts and condolences are with his wife Janet and his two sons and grandchildren.
