Annual Camp - Day 0

After over a year of planning, Humberside and South Yorkshire Army Cadet Force (HSY ACF) arrived at Barry Buddon Training Camp to start our eight-day annual camp.

Coaches pulled into camp, the rain stopped in time for our arrival. and excited cadets and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAV) disembarked. Rooms assigned, training companies gathered and platoons squadded, and the Commandants parade fell in.

300 Cadets and Adult Volunteers from both HSY ACF and the Royal Air Force Air Cadets stood in the parade square to be welcomed to camp by Commandant Colonel Fred Owen, before he kicked off camp 2023 with some well-deserved promotions.

Cadet Staff Sergeant Sam Shackleton (E Company) was promoted to Cadet Sergeant Major, Lieutenant Jane Lees was promoted to Captain, alongside fellow CFAVs Lieutenant Paul Mears who was also promoted to Captain, and newly commissioned Second Lieutenant Grant Jones. Lieutenant Liz Field was also presented her first bar for 18 years’ service to the cadet force. The Newly Promoted Captain Lees also received a letter of Appreciation.

The parade then had what can only be described as a rousing sermon by Padre Jackson, who’s lively personality shone through and led the camp in two well-known hymns. All too soon, the parade was dismissed for the end of the first day on camp.
