Five Cadets from Waltham Detachment, E Company, were lucky to attend the Royal Artillery Cadet Insight Camp (RACIC) held at Kingston Park between 30 October and 1 November 2023.

The camp was a packed three days hosted by 101st Regiment, Royal Artillery giving affiliated cadets an overview on roles and capability within the Royal Artillery.

The cadets were able to learn about the various Gunner roles and got hands on with some of the equipment used by the Royal Artillery. They learnt about MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System), direct fire drills, enhanced map reading skills.

They were also treated to weapon and vehicle stands, and presentations by serving Royal Artillery personnel and even got to try the Dismounted Close Combat Trainer (DCCT)

Cadet Sergeant (Cdt Sgt) Betty Kirby, Cadet Corporal (Cdt Cpl) Scott Harrington, Cadet Lance Corporal (Cdt L/Cpl) Samuel Oakley, Cdt L/Cpl Samuel Timings and Cadet (Cdt) George Pettigrew were all successful in testing at the end of the camp and earned a Royal Artillery badge that can be worn on their blanking plate.

All cadets had an amazing experience and we thank the 101st Regiment Royal Artillery for hosting it and giving us the opportunity.
