Ex-Suffolk Army Cadet becomes the New Commandant of Suffolk Army Cadet Force

Col Rob Simpkin is appointed Commandant of Suffolk ACF after first joining Suffolk ACF as a teenager.

Colonel Simpkin takes up his new appointment on the 1st February 2023. A keen and committed officer who has over 18 years shown dedication to the development of young people in Suffolk, and the Army Cadet Force. His new role will be to take Suffolk ACF forward with new challenges for cadets within the community and county.

Colonel Simpkin was a cadet at Ixworth Detachment from 1979-85. In 2005, he re-joined the ACF as an adult volunteer. Over the years, his many roles have included; Detachment Commander at Mildenhall, Company Training Officer, County Duke of Edinburgh Award Officer before being promoted to Major as Officer Commanding “A” Company, he now promotes from the role of Deputy Commandant. He still sees several of the friends he made as a cadet even now, as they are fellow instructors in the ACF.

Rob’s day job is as a Senior Project Manager in the building services industry. He commented: “The Army Cadet Force offers many exciting and challenging opportunities, for both young people and adult volunteers alike. I am proud to be part of such a fantastic organisation and would encourage anyone who has any spare time to volunteer with the Army Cadet Force.”
