On Friday 3rd November, members of the Humberside and South Yorkshire Army Cadet Force (HSY ACF) Engagement Team along with 'D' Company Sergeant Major; Sergeant Major Instructor (SMI) Wayne Clarke headed to Maltby for a meeting with the town Council.

Headed up by Major (Maj) John Lomas, the Engagement Team has a wide array of roles within the community and this meeting was no exception. Discussions were held about the possibility of opening a brand new detachment in the town, and how the Army Cadet Force can be a beneficial asset to have in an area for both young people and potential adult volunteers.

SMI Clarke, and Captain Vicki Brooks got to speak to potential cadets at the Coronation Park Dark Night Event, answering questions about the cadet forces, and explaining what a cadet can achieve as part of the organisation, with interested parties connecting with the nearest units in both 'D' and 'C' companies to find out more.

Maj Lomas said: “it was a pleasure to meet with the local community of Maltby, this gave the young people from the area an opportunity to discuss what the Army Cadet Force is all about. It was great to continue the conversation, and getting the support from the local town council and Royal British Legion to bring a brand new detachment to the town. There are still conversations to be had, but we’re in agreement that it would be something positive for the area”.
