Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force plays an active role in supporting local community events. These events present great opportunities for our Cadets to give to their local communities, but participation also develops their maturity, responsibility, and demonstrates core ACF Values and Standards including Selfless Commitment to Others. One example of this selfless commitment is by the Cadets and adults who volunteer at Soham Carnival, whose support this year was recognised by a donation to Soham Detachment from the carnival organisers.

Soham Heavy Horse Show and Carnival takes place every spring, and is organised by Soham Benevolent Association. This year, 12 Cadets took part and their duties included assisting on the main gate and litter picking. They also set up a recruitment stand.

Profits from the event are then donated to various organisations, and this year Soham Detachment received a cheque for £150 from the organisers of the carnival, which was received by Cadet Bella Harris on behalf of the Detachment. The money wll be used to purchase equipment for the Cadets to use on weekend training camps.

Soham Detachment Commander SMI Lee Harris said; “It’s a great pleasure to be able to help at the carnival, and its important for us to maintain a visible presence in the community. The Cadets worked hard throughout the day, but really enjoyed themselves, and to get £150 for us is great.”
