Clifton Detachment recently hosted The Ceremonial Mayor of Salford, Councillor Gina Reynolds.

The Ceremonial Mayor is responsible for carrying out civic duties on behalf of the council. This is a different role to the City Mayor.

Intrigued by the routine of a typical parade night, Cllr Reynolds, accompanied by her husband Mayor Consort Neil, was given a tour of the Detachment and Army Reserve Centre which the cadets and staff parade. Cllr Reynolds took a keen interest in the lessons and held conversations with some of the cadets and staff after which Cllr Reynolds was invited to participate in an engaging lesson about CASSIM led by Sgt Paul Grundy from 127 Company, Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (REME). Cllr Reynolds enjoyed taking part in the cadet experience.

SSI Waring supplied refreshments and shared the history of No 4 (Korea) Company. Cllr Reynolds also learned of the support received from 127 Company (REME), facilitated by Sgt Smith in his own time. Major Fiona Short, Company Commander of No 4 (Korea) Company also attended the night to welcome The Ceremonial Mayor of Salford, Councillor Gina Reynolds.

On our final parade Cllr Reynolds expressed her gratitude to the staff for their hard work. She commended the cadets for being responsible citizens, willingly dedicating their spare time to fundraising and supporting local events. The support from Clifton Detachment during a civic parade in May sparked Cllr Reynolds curiosity about the cadets activities.

Well done everyone for a great night and for making The Ceremonial Mayor of Salford, Councillor Gina Reynolds and Mayor Consort Neil feel very welcome.
