On the 4th and 5th December Cadets and Adults from No 4 (Korea) Company attended the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester for a Christmas Concert, and to help raise funds for Young Lives vs Cancer.
They are a fantastic charity who help children and young people diagnosed with cancer and their families in many different ways. They provide financial support; places for families to stay whilst their relative is receiving treatment; they campaign for change and provide bereavement support amongst other things. During the interval the Cadets were stood throughout the halls and atriums with their buckets collecting donations and chatting to the attendees. Shortly after the interval we heard a moving speech from a young cancer survivor who had received support from the charity throughout her journey. After the speech the cadets and staff entered the auditorium and completed a full bucket collection of the entire venue. With a capacity of 2400, this took some coordination in order to complete the task as quickly as possible. So, in true army cadet ‘military’ fashion we deployed techniques which allowed us to complete the bucket collection in record time.
The Cadets worked hard as always and were a credit to the Company, selflessly giving up their evenings for this event. Last year the charity managed to raise over £7000 from the event, so we will be hoping to beat that amount this year.
