Like many thousands across the Country cadets and staff from No 1 (Minden) Company took part in the Kings Coronation Big Help Out on the 8th May, at the Coronation Party at the Fusilier Museum in Bury.

Throughout the day over 30 cadets gave up their time, along with 10 members of staff to volunteer for the Local Community. The cadets arrived at 9 am and after getting some breakfast helped out setting up stands and had a look around the Fusilier Museum. As the event started the cadets chatted to others at the event and the visitors.

Roach Valley Radio broadcast throughout the day from the event. Cadet Cpl Aubrey, 2Lt Cole and Major Pilling spoke about the Army Cadets, the excellent opportunities it offers, for both young people between the age of 12 and 18 and adults as volunteers.

The cadets gave a demonstration of drill in the afternoon and had a tour of a Fire Engine that arrived at the event. Some cadets even gave a dance class to the passing public being played by the radio station.

The event finishing at 4 pm all went home, with the satisfaction that with others around the Country they did as was requested by The King, giving up their time to volunteer.

Cadets and adult volunteers often give up their time during the year for events from parades to charity events and selling Poppies at Remembrance. Being a part of the community they live and showing that young people do bring a lot of positives in that Community.

Being a Cadet in the Army Cadets, they learn that Selfless Commitment is one of the Values and Standards of being a Cadet. The Values and Standards they not only use as cadets, but also in their lives outside and beyond cadets.
