On 29th April 2024 – Barton Detachment had the privilege of hosting a visit from Barton upon Humber’s esteemed Mayor Councillor Keith Vickers. The occasion was marked by a significant contribution to the detachment, as Mayor Vickers presented a cheque totalling £2545.93. This generous donation signifies Barton Detachment's selection as one of Mayor Vickers' designated charities for the year.

Throughout the year, the cadets of Barton Detachment actively participated in various events organised by the Mayor to help raise funds. Notable among these events was their role as a Guard of Honour during the entrance of dignitaries at the Civic Service held in the local church. Additionally, the detachment received a special invitation to participate in the forthcoming D-Day anniversary celebrations scheduled for June.

The community spirit of the cadets and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAV) from Barton during the activities is second to none. With the CFAVs involvement included attending a dinner night at the local curry house and gracing the Civic Dinner alongside members of the E Company and Humberside & South Yorkshire HQ teams.

During the visit, the Mayor took a moment to address the cadets during the presentation of the cheque, expressing his profound gratitude and pride in their dedication. He commended their exemplary conduct at events, emphasising the importance of their smart appearance and self-confidence.

Staff Sergeant Katie Bolton, Detachment Commander said: "I’d like to express my heartfelt appreciation to Mayor for his generosity and for selecting the cadets as beneficiaries of his charitable endeavours."
