Day 13 - Thursday 3 August 2023

Congratulations to Burma Company who were the overall winners.

We have had a fantastic day today, with the Lord Lieutenants Cup taking place here at Otterburn. The cadets have taken part in lots of activities including Drill, Shooting and Archery.

We would also like to say congratulations to Major Burns who received his 5th Clasp for his Cadet Force Medal and to Sgt King who was promoted to RSM.

Day 12 - Wednesday 2 August 2023

The 1 Star Cadets have had another busy day taking part in Drill Tests and continuing their Cyber First Adventurers Award.

They have also been out on the range, which today has been operated by our very own husband and wife team SMI Gary Kelly and SSI Stacey Kelly, who are volunteering here at Summer Camp together!

The 2 Star Cadets have been continuing with First Aid, Drill, CIS and JCIC activities.

The 3 Star Cadets have successfully concluded their Field Training Exercise and returned to camp. On their final night, they took part in another ambush and vehicle search activities.

Tomorrow will be an exciting day as we are holding the Lord Lieutenants Cup, which will be an inter company competition featuring Drill, Signals, Shooting and First Aid competitions between Arnhem, Burma and Chindt


Day 11 - Tuesday 1 August 2023

How is it day 11 already?

Have you ever wondered how we fuel all these incredible activities the Cadets have been taking part in? Well today we take a look inside the Cook House here at Otterburn. On today's menu was steak, chicken, pasta and some delicious looking desserts! Yum!

Today we welcomed Commander North West Region, Colonel Darren Doherty and Colonel of Cadets HQ North West Region, Colonel Ian Holmes. They were joined by Colonel Mark Underhill NWRFCA Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executive Chance Wilson. They have even been taking part in some of today's activities.

The 1 Star Cadets have had another busy day, out on the range, taking part in drill tests and continuing their Cyber First Adventurers Award.

The 2 Star Cadets have been taking part in CIS, First Aid Training and a group also took part in Adventure Training.

The 3 Star Cadets remain out on the Field Training Exercise, and last night took part in Ambush Drills. Today they have been working on Section Attacks! Tomorrow, they will return to camp.

Day 10 - Monday 31 July 2023

Another busy, if somewhat wet day here at Otterburn.

The 1 Star Cadets have been busy taking part in Drill, Navigation, Adventure Training and working towards their Cyber First Adventurers Award.

The 2 Star Cadets have been continuing with JCIC and Rifle Drill Training.

The 3 Star Cadets have been continuing their Field Training Exercise.

Day 9 - Sunday 30 July 2023

Today SSI Lindsley was promoted to the rank of SMI - Congratulations!

This morning started with a church service led by the Padre.

It has been another busy day, with more Adventure Training for the 1 Star Cadets.
Our 1 Star Cadets have also taken the first step in working towards their Cyber First Adventurers award. The course increases awareness of cyber security, and in developing practical skills. It helps promote STEM careers for the next generation.

This is being led by Lance Corporal Feldman from the Army Air Corps.

The 2 Star Cadets have had a productive day completing their Junior Cadet Instructors Cadre (JCIC), which is the first step in leadership within the ACF. They have also competed their Rifle Drill Training ready for assessment and an introduction to the new cyber age.

The 3 Star Cadets took part in Navigation training before deploying to the field for their 3 night Filed Training Exercise.

Day 8 - Saturday 29 July 2023

Today marks a week since our Annual Summer Camp began and what a week it's been!

The 1 Star Cadets returned to camp today after successfully completing their Field Training Exercise. They have been doing Harbour Drills and Harbour Defence training this morning.

The 2 Star Cadets have been continuing their First Aid Training and CIS. A group of 2 Star Cadets have been taking part in Adventure Training.

The 3 Star Cadets have continued their preparations for their 4 day Field Training Exercise which starts tomorrow morning.

Day 7 - Friday 28 July 2023

We would like to congratulate the three adult volunteers from Cumbria ACF who passed their Advanced Induction Course today.

Congratulations to Emily Pidgley-Bowman, Zak Abernethy and David Baldock.

Today, our 1 Star Cadets have deployed on their Field Training Exercise. They will be camping out overnight and taking part in fieldcraft exercises, including basher building, camouflage and concealment, and patrol.

Our 2 Star have spent the day doing First Aid Training and CIS.

It was the turn of our 3 Star Cadets to take part in Adventure Training.

Day 6 - Thursday 27 July 2023

Another busy day here at Otterburn.

Our 1 Star Cadets have been continuing with their Weapon Handling testing, with lots of successful passes coming through - congratulations!

The 2 Star Cadets have been out on the range today.

Our 3 Star cadets have been working on CFIT (Cadet Force Instructional Techniques) and instructing drill sessions.

Day 5 - Wednesday 26 July 2023

Today the 1 Star Cadets who took part in yesterday's adventure training have been taking their Weapon Handling tests, with the other group taking part in Adventure Training.

Our 2 Star Cadets returned to camp having successfully completed their Field Training Exercise. They have been spending the day organising and returning their kit and on the DCCT (Dismounted Close Combat Trainer) in preparation for their range day tomorrow.

The 3 Star Cadets have been tested on the shooting range. We would like to say thank you to 4 Lancs (Duke of Lancaster Regiment) who assisted us with running the range.

Day 4 - Tuesday 25 July 2023

Today some of the 1 Star Cadets have been taking part in Adventure Training, including kayaking and abseiling. The remainder of the 1 Star Cadets took their Weapon Handling tests.

The 2 Star Cadets have continued their Field Training Exercise after spending their first full night out in the field. Today they have been working in their sections and platoons, including model building to plan out the movement strategy for section attacks and ambushes.

The 3 Star Cadets have been taking part in their Drill Tests.

Day 3 - Monday 24 July 2023

Another busy day here in Otterburn and the weather has been a bit kinder to us today.

The 1 Star Cadets have been continuing their Weapon Handling and Navigation training.

Our 2 Star Cadets have deployed into the field for the first part of their Field Training Exercise, which will see them learn about patrol, ambushes and section attacks. They will be out in the field until Wednesday morning, so fingers crossed the weather remains kind to them.

Our 3 Star Cadets have been continuing their Drill practice, and learning about how to lead their own Drill Squad.

Day 2 - Sunday 23 July 2023

Today marks the first full day of activities here at Otterburn.

Our 1 Star Cadets, split into two platoons, have been taking part in rifle lessons including learning about assembly, cleaning, maintenance and basic handling.

The 2nd Platoon began their day learning about navigation and after lunch they took part in drill and military knowledge activities.
The 2 Star Cadets have been busy honing their weapon handling skills and preparing for their Field Exercise which will take place in a couple of days.

Finally, our 3 Star Cadets have been taking part in Cane Drill, some of which had take place indoors due to the weather!

We have had a great first full day, despite the heavy rain, and we are looking forward to the rest of the fortnight, with lots more to come.

Day 1 - Saturday 22 July 2023

Today marks the start of Cumbria ACF's Annual Summer Camp, which this year is taking place at Otterburn in Northumberland.

It has been a busy afternoon, as around 180 Cadets and 45 Volunteers arrived and settled into their accommodation blocks for the next two weeks. This was followed by the first parade, which incorporated the promotion of Sgt Michael Graham from Sergeant Instructor to Staff Sergeant Instructor and the promotion of three cadets from Kendal Detachment. Congratulations to all involved.

Tomorrow, the Cadet's will split into their Star Level Groups to begin training, this will include Drill, Navigation and Weapon Handling.
