A (Guards) Company had a training and testing weekend over the weekend of 10-12th December the focus was on Expedition training, Navigation, Orienteering, Shooting and Drill.
Lt Fitzgibbon planned for all cadets to complete a round robin of expedition lessons mixed in with an orienteering course across the training areas at Bramley Training Area. Cadets were taught about types of cookers, expedition kit/equipment and tents. This gave an opportunity for new cadets to have a taste of ACF/DofE expedition. They also had a go at an orienteering course. This gave them the skills needed for navigation.
Lt I Horn ran a shooting range, cadets were able to shoot the scorpion air rifle. Some cadets even passed their shooting, which meant some of them passed their Basic Training and gained a certificate and badge as a reward.
Saturday night the Cadets had a visit from our Regimental Sergeant Major Instructor (RSMI) Annette Foale, who gave an insight into mental health for the cadets and raised their awareness and how to deal with mental health issues.
On the Sunday, Company Sergeant Major Instructor (CSMI) Muggeridge took the all the Cadets for drill, they were taught parade procedures, static drill and marching. This was a great opportunity for new cadets to understand the importance of drill and learn the skills to enable them to take part in parades.
The weekend was a great success, 56 cadets attended and were supported and trained by 13 instructors which we are hugely grateful for them giving up their free time. Overall, the cadets and the adults were in good spirits all weekend, showing the strength of the Company.
