A Christmas message from the Commandant

22 December 2023

  • Humberside And South Yorkshire ACF

Dear Members of Team HSY,

As we approach the festive season, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the challenges and triumphs we have faced together throughout this year. It has undeniably been a testing period for our County, with the backdrop of a challenging economic climate and the ongoing war in Europe. In the face of these difficulties, Humberside and South Yorkshire ACF has not only persevered but excelled.

Despite financial constraints and resource cutbacks, our collective efforts have ensured the delivery of a gold standard cadet experience. The introduction of the Culture Handbook, coupled with a renewed focus on a structure dedicated to equality and diversity, has allowed us to recognise and foster talent, ultimately enhancing the overall experience for both our cadets and volunteers.

I am particularly proud of the outstanding achievements we've accomplished together. From the very first cadet employment fair, to the successful execution of two annual camps to memorable visits to iconic locations such as the Palace of Westminster, the Royal Hospital Chelsea, and cadet shooting ventures in Canada, the list of accomplishments is extensive.

Moreover, our commitment to acknowledging the outstanding service of our Cadet Force Adult Volunteers has been exemplified through the high number of receipts of His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant certificates. Our Permanent Staff has been the jewel in the crown, seamlessly integrating into "Team HSY" to achieve the best outcomes for all ranks.

Looking ahead, we are anticipating changes at the leadership level, with Lt Col Rushby set to take the reins from Col Mike in the New Year, we wish them both the very best. Our focus on developing engagement, prioritising our people, and fostering well-being will remain steadfast in 2024. As we navigate an uncertain future, marked by continued financial and resource pressures, our commitment to supporting the Ukraine forces in their fight against the illegal war remains unwavering. The cornerstone of our success in 2024 will undoubtedly be our leadership and dedication to our people.

I am confident that, just as we've done this year, Team HSY will face the challenges of the future with the same spirit, determination, and resilience. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you, your families, and employers for your unwavering support, which has enabled our organisation to not just survive but thrive.

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyous Christmas and a New Year filled with hope, peace, and success.

Warm regards,

Colonel FT Owen

Commandant
