This weekend cadets attended a series of classes and training sessions at Waterbeach Cadet Training Centre to help their progress towards gaining their third and fourth stars, with two star shooting also taking place at the Barton Road range.

Cadets practised combat skills including fire and movement, taking a harbour area and peeling and flanking.

At the Barton Road rifle range, two star cadets got to shoot the 5.56mm GP rifle, virtually identical to that used by the British Army. They shot at pop-up targets at a range of 100 metres and were able to check their accuracy with an electronic scoring system linked to display panels.

Back at Waterbeach, cadets underwent vigorous physical training exercises on the training ground. They also undertook skill at arms training and completed safe weapons handling tests.

Other classes included Quick Battle Orders- the process of planning an attack. Here cadets assessed intelligence information and used improvised models to brief each other on the terrain, the position of the enemy, and discuss the importance of identifying and safeguarding non-combatants.

All the cadets present took part in the activities with great enthusiasm and repeatedly displayed their understanding of some of the ACF’s most vital values, especially with regard to teamwork.
