First Aid Course

CTC supports a number of first aid 'train the trainer' courses. These courses should not be attended simply to gain a first aid certificate.

CCF/ACF Company First Aid Trainer Course

Provides an externally accredited first aid qualification that meets the requirements of the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and AC72008.  Previous first aid experience is not necessary. It is, however, a requirement of the course that students will go on to teach first aid to cadets at detachment, company and contingent level.

The course qualifies CFAVs as follows:

  • First Aid at Work (FAW) Certificate.
  • Company (Contingent) First Aid Trainer.  Covers:
    - Youth First Aid
    - Heartstart ELS
    - Scenario training
    - Casualty simulation
  • Expedition First Aid, including anaphylaxis and Automated External Defibrillators (AED) qualifications.
  • Provides a formal qualification to assess cadets and CFAVs to Activity First Aid standard.

CCF/ACF First Aid Trainer Development Course

Develops a CFAV's subject knowledge to develop them as a trainer and practitioner. Specifically this course:

  • Re-qualifies CCF/ACF Officers and AIs in First Aid at Work (FAW).
  • Provides the Level 3 Certificate in Immediate Emergency Care - including AED and anaphylaxis training.
  • Provides training in advanced techniques suitable for sustained first aid treatment.
  • Provides a formal qualification to assess cadets and CFAVs to Activity First Aid standard.

Students must have a current First Aid at Work certificate that they have held for at least 12 months; they must teach first aid to cadets and intend continuing to do so.

CCF/ACF First Aid Teaching Certificate Course

Qualifies CFAVs as first aid trainers/assessors able to deliver First Aid at Work and Activity First Aid courses within the cadet forces.  This course:

  • Re-qualifies CFAVs for a First Aid at Work certificate.
  • Provides an externally-accredited, HSE-approved teaching and assessing qualification.
  • Provides evidence of competence to deliver relevant first aid courses, including a summative assessment of teaching and first aid skills.

Students must have:

  • A current First Aid at Work certificate that they have held for at least three years;
  • Evidence of teaching Youth First Aid to cadets; and
  • An intention to teach first aid to other CFAVs.
