Below are just a few of the wide variety of activities ACFA grants have supported.
GLOUCESTERSHIRE, KENT AND DEVON CADETS ENJOY THE HIGH LIFE
A group of Gloucestershire, Kent and Devon cadets travelled to Austria to participate in a week of challenging high altitude training in the Alps. It was a chance for cadets of all skiing abilities to gain qualifications as well as enjoy a variety of evening activities such as night sledging and the Fire on Ice Show. This was also a great opportunity for cadets to work towards their DofE qualifications.
STAFFORDSHIRE AND WEST MIDLANDS (NORTH SECTOR) VENTURE THROUGH THE LAKE DISTRICT
26 cadets and adult volunteers spent an exciting week in the Lake District during August 2016, introducing junior cadets to the joys of adventurous training. Everyone enjoyed white water kayaking, ghyll scrambling, multi-pitch rock climbing, mountain biking and completing a two day mountain expedition incorporating a wild high level camp. The trip also enabled the cadets to complete their Bronze DofE and/or APC 2* expedition.
MIDDLESEX AND NORTH WEST LONDON ACF EXPERIENCE WORLD WAR ONE ALONGSIDE AUSTRALIAN CADETS
After escorting the Australian cadets around the cultural sites of London, Middlesex and North West London ACF joined the Australian cadets to visit the battlefields and memorials of World War One. Here, they experienced what it would have been like to be a soldier in the war. They wore their uniform, sampled their rations and manoeuvred through original trenches. The cadets also took part in a moving remembrance parade at the Menin Gate in front of 2000 attendees.
