From your first day as a cadet, your life will change. You’ll encounter new challenges and experiences, you’ll learn to understand yourself better and those around you, you’ll become an active and valued member of your community, and earn nationally recognised qualifications.
Wondering what life as a cadet looks like? Here’s what you can expect.
What Do You Do at Army Cadets?
Throughout your journey, you’ll work through the Army Cadet Syllabus, developing skills in:
- Leadership and Teamwork
- First Aid
- Drill and Turnout
- Navigation and Expeditions
- Community Engagement
Each stage of the syllabus builds your confidence, practical skills, and self-discipline, and you’ll earn star levels to celebrate your achievements.
Adventurous training gives you the opportunity to participate in activities that will challenge you and change you for the better. Adventure is at the heart of everything we do, and by joining us, you’ll discover strengths you didn’t even know you had.
One of the biggest highlights of the year is the Annual Camp – an action-packed residential experience during the school holidays. Over 7 days, depending on your County, Sector or Battalion you may:
- Take part in adventurous training and activities
- Work toward your next star level
- Build friendships with cadets from other detachments and counties
- Explore stunning outdoor locations
- Push yourself through exciting challenges like canoeing, hiking, shooting, and obstacle courses
Annual Camp is where cadets put their skills into action, grow in confidence, and have an unforgettable adventure.
Why Being a Cadet is Amazing
Cadets often say their time in the Army Cadets is life-changing. It’s about more than outdoor adventures and training sessions - it’s about growing into someone confident, capable, and proud of what they can achieve.
