Clwyd and Gwynedd ACF Bids a Heartfelt Farewell to Inspirational Regimental Sergeant Major Maisie Roberts
Clwyd and Gwynedd Army Cadet Force proudly bids farewell to Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) Maisie Roberts from Bradley Detachment as she concludes an extraordinary cadet career that has inspired everyone fortunate enough to serve alongside her.
Joining the ACF in November 2020 during the height of the pandemic, Maisie’s first experiences of cadet life took place on virtual parade nights. Despite such unusual beginnings, she embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm and determination, embarking on a journey that would see her achieve the very highest honours available to an Army Cadet.
Throughout her time in the ACF, Maisie has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership, professionalism and commitment. Her hard work culminated in her successful completion of the prestigious Master Cadet Course at Cadet Training Centre Frimley Park, where she achieved a Highly Competent grading. She was also recognised as Best Cadet on the demanding Senior Cadet Instructors Cadre (SCIC), highlighting her outstanding instructional ability and leadership potential.
Her impressive achievements saw her appointed Company Sergeant Major of Cambrai Company in August 2025 before being selected as Regimental Sergeant Major in April 2026, becoming the most senior cadet in North Wales. Throughout her tenure, Maisie carried out the role with professionalism, integrity and distinction, setting the highest standards while supporting, mentoring and inspiring cadets across the county.
Maisie’s achievements extend far beyond her appointments. At the prestigious Cadet Cambrian Patrol Competition, she was awarded a Team Gold Medal and was recognised as the Best Patrol Commander, reflecting her exceptional leadership, decision-making and ability to perform under pressure. She also successfully completed her Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and was honoured with the prestigious appointment of Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet, recognising her as one of the county’s finest young ambassadors.
She also had the honour of representing the Army Cadets on some of the nation’s most significant ceremonial occasions, including the National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in London, the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall, and the Major General’s Review ahead of Trooping the Colour. These prestigious events are reserved for the very best cadets from across the United Kingdom and are a testament to the high regard in which Maisie is held.
Regimental Recognition
As a proud representative of a Welsh Guards affiliated detachment, Maisie has been an exceptional ambassador for the Regiment throughout her cadet career. Her unwavering support, commitment and exemplary conduct have earned the admiration and respect of both cadets and serving soldiers alike.
In recognition of her exceptional service, Maisie was presented with a personal letter of thanks from Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) G. Bartie-Jones, the Regiment Adjutant. The letter expressed sincere appreciation for her loyal service, dedication and the exemplary manner in which she has represented the Welsh Guards throughout her cadet journey.
Reflecting on her time in the Army Cadet Force, Maisie said:
“The ACF has developed skills that are essential for my future aspirations of becoming a teacher, and it has helped build my confidence greatly. My advice for future cadets is to try all of the activities you possibly can, and when progression through the syllabus and ranks slows, persevere, as some amazing experiences will come.”
Moving to a new challenge
As Maisie now begins the next chapter of her journey, pursuing a career in teaching, everyone at Clwyd and Gwynedd Army Cadet Force is confident she will continue to inspire those around her. The leadership, compassion and resilience she has demonstrated throughout her cadet career will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the young people whose lives she will shape in the classroom.
Maisie’s journey is a shining example of what can be achieved through dedication, resilience and a willingness to embrace every opportunity. From virtual parade nights to becoming the most senior cadet in North Wales, her story embodies everything the Army Cadet Force stands for.
While we are sad to see her cadet journey come to an end, we are immensely proud of everything she has achieved. Maisie leaves behind an enduring legacy of excellence, leadership and service that will inspire future generations of cadets for years to come.
