Korea and Ypres Companies Complete Successful Fieldcraft Training Weekend
Cadets from Korea and Ypres Companies recently participated in a highly successful Fieldcraft Training Weekend on the outskirts of Edinburgh. The exercise provided an excellent opportunity for young people to develop essential military skills while building confidence, teamwork and resilience in a challenging outdoor environment.
Throughout the weekend, cadets embraced every aspect of the training programme with enthusiasm and determination. As a result, they gained valuable experience that will support their continued progression within the Army Cadet Force.
Developing Essential Military Skills
Fieldcraft training forms a vital part of the cadet experience. It teaches practical skills that help cadets operate effectively in outdoor environments while encouraging self-discipline and personal responsibility.
During the exercise, cadets practised a variety of key fieldcraft techniques, including:
Navigation and Movement
Cadets learned how to move safely and effectively through different types of terrain. Furthermore, they developed their awareness of their surroundings and improved their ability to work as part of a team.
Observation and Awareness
The weekend also focused on observation skills and situational awareness. These activities encouraged cadets to think critically, remain alert and make informed decisions under varying conditions.
Teamwork Under Pressure
One of the most important elements of fieldcraft training is teamwork. Throughout the exercise, cadets worked together to overcome challenges, solve problems and support one another in achieving shared objectives.
Building Confidence and Resilience
In addition to developing military skills, the Fieldcraft Training Weekend helped cadets strengthen important life skills.
By operating in an outdoor environment and stepping outside their comfort zones, cadets demonstrated resilience, perseverance and adaptability. These qualities are not only valuable within the Army Cadet Force but also in education, employment and everyday life.
Consequently, the experience provided participants with a rewarding opportunity for personal growth and development.
The Importance of Adult Volunteers and Professional Support Staff
Events such as this would not be possible without the commitment and dedication of adult volunteers.
A sincere thank you goes to all the Adult Volunteers who gave up their time to plan, organise and deliver the training. Their knowledge, enthusiasm and professionalism ensured that cadets received a safe, enjoyable and valuable experience.
Special recognition must also be given to the Professional Support Staff (PSS), whose behind-the-scenes support played a crucial role in the success of the weekend. From administration and logistics to ensuring resources were available, their contribution helped the exercise run smoothly from start to finish.
A Successful and Rewarding Weekend
The success of this Fieldcraft Training Weekend reflects the dedication of both cadets and staff. Throughout the exercise, participants demonstrated outstanding commitment, discipline and teamwork while embracing every challenge presented to them.
As the weekend concluded, cadets returned home with new skills, increased confidence and lasting memories of an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
Congratulations to all cadets, Adult Volunteers and Professional Support Staff involved in delivering another outstanding weekend of training. Their collective effort continues to provide young people with exceptional opportunities for development, adventure and achievement within the Army Cadet Force.
