Five companies of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Army Cadets recently came together for the highly anticipated County First Aid Competition, where over 60 cadets and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) were tested on their ability to respond to realistic first aid scenarios. Held at the Cadet Training Centre, Langley Lines this competition challenged participants to demonstrate not only their proficiency in lifesaving techniques but also their teamwork and composure under pressure.

Throughout the day, teams rotated between simulated emergency incidents, treating a range of injuries and conditions designed to reflect real-life situations. Judges assessed each group’s accuracy of treatment, communication skills, and ability to provide leadership in high-pressure environments.

The event culminated in an awards ceremony announcing the top three teams:

Young Adults Competition

First Place: Minden Company

Normandy Company

Speaking at the competition, Captain Mitchell Allen ACF, the County First Aid Training Officer, praised both the cadets and the CFAVs for their performance and commitment. “We are immensely proud of all who took part in this competition. The cadets have clearly demonstrated not just the practical skills needed to save a life, but also the determination and resilience to work as a team under pressure. Their enthusiasm and dedication reflect the true spirit of the Army Cadets.”

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Army Cadets regularly engage in training programmes aimed at developing leadership, communication, and lifesaving skills. The County First Aid Competition serves as a highlight in their annual calendar, offering young people and their adult volunteers an opportunity to refine and showcase the invaluable skills they gain through the Army Cadet Force.
