The Paddlesport Instructor Award is a nationally recognised qualification designed for those who want to introduce beginners to paddlesport in a fun, safe, and engaging way. Aimed at individuals who are passionate about sharing their love of kayaking, canoeing, or stand-up paddleboarding, the award focuses on delivering enjoyable sessions on very sheltered water. The course equips instructors with the skills to plan and run short, introductory paddling sessions for groups using a range of paddlesport craft. The award is administered by Paddle UK (or its home nation associations: Paddle Wales, Paddle Scotland, or Paddle Northern Ireland), and awarded by the British Canoeing Awarding Body, the governing body for paddlesport in the UK. It provides a solid foundation for those looking to start their journey as paddlesport coaches and leaders.
The Paddlesport Instructor Award course content is designed to give candidates the practical skills and knowledge needed to deliver safe, fun, and engaging introductory paddling sessions. The course covers key areas such as session planning and delivery, group management, and effective communication on the water. Candidates learn how to assist beginners in developing basic paddling techniques in a range of craft, including kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards, on very sheltered water.
