VJ Day Service of remembrance

The 15fed of August 2025 saw the 80fed Anniversary of VJ Day. Suffolk ACF was proudly represented at the 80th Diwrnod VJ service of Remembrance and Royal visit at St Mary’s Church in Bury St Edmunds to mark the occasion. This was in the presence of HRH the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

There was an inter-detachment attendance by A Company to represent Suffolk ACF. In attendance were our Adult Volunteers SSI Warby (Bury and Minden) and SSI Graham (Ixworth). They were joined by Cadets from Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill, Ixworth, Minden and Mildenhall. The Cadets carried the Minden Company Banner (A Company Royal Anglian), and the 11 Flight Army Air Corp Banner (Bury detachment),

At the same event Suffolk’s Cadet RSM West carried out his duties as the Cadet yr Arglwydd Raglaw, who for Suffolk is Lady Euston. Cadet RSM West accompanied Lady Euston at the service and laid a wreath as part of the ceremony.

Thanks go to all for your attendance, politeness and excellent turn out. Well done all of you.

About VJ Day

While VE Day (Victory in Europe) marked the end of the war in Europe in May 1945, many thousands of Armed Forces personnel were still engaged in fighting in the Far East. Victory over Japan would come at a heavy price, and Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day) marks the day Japan surrendered on 15 August 1945, which ended the Second World War.

VJ Day, or Victory over Japan Day, is observed on 15 August to mark the end of World War II. It commemorates the day in 1945 when Japan announced its surrender, effectively bringing the war to a close. In the UK, this date is remembered with gratitude for the sacrifices made during the conflict, especially by those who served in the Asia-Pacific region.
