Cadets demonstrating resilience

Suffolk’s C Company cadets demonstrated resilience and adaptability during a successful weekend training exercise at the Cadet Training Centre recently, where an unexpected change to the training environment provided an opportunity to reinforce one of the ACF’s core values – overcoming challenges through teamwork and initiative.

Due to restricted access to the planned training area, the weekend program was swiftly reorganised, with all activities taking place in and around the training establishment. Thanks to careful planning by Adult Volunteers, the revised program ensured cadets continued to make excellent progress through the આર્મી કેડેટ અભ્યાસક્રમ while maintaining a safe and engaging training environment. Regular hydration breaks were incorporated throughout the weekend in response to the warm weather conditions.

Cadet Syllabus Training

Training was delivered according to Star levels, allowing cadets to receive instruction appropriate to their stage of development. For 1 Star cadets, Saturday’s program focused on developing fundamental military skills through lessons in હથિયારકૌશલ્ય અને ફિલ્ડક્રાફ્ટ.

During Skill at Arms training, cadets strengthened their understanding of the GP Rifle, reinforcing the importance of safe weapon handling, drills and the principles that underpin marksmanship training. Fieldcraft lessons saw cadets develop practical skills including the construction of a two-person shelter, administration in the field, sentry duties and the preparation of range cards. These essential subjects provide the foundation for operating effectively and safely in a field environment while encouraging teamwork, self-discipline and attention to detail.

Saturday evening’s training program was extended slightly to allow cadets the opportunity to come together and watch the World Cup, providing a welcome opportunity to relax and build camaraderie after a busy day of instruction.

Following a well-earned lie-in on Sunday morning, training resumed with further 1 Star Fieldcraft lessons covering reactions to effective enemy fire, together with personal camouflage and concealment. These practical sessions challenged cadets to apply the skills they had learned while developing confidence, situational awareness and effective decision-making under realistic training scenarios.

Although the weekend required a change of plan, the professionalism and flexibility shown by both Adult Volunteers and cadets ensured that all training objectives were successfully achieved. The exercise once again highlighted the ability of Suffolk’s cadets to adapt to changing circumstances while adults continued to deliver high-quality training that develops confidence, leadership and the skills needed for future progression within the ACF. Thank you to our adult volunteers, and well done to all of our cadets for another successful C Company weekend.

Suffolk ACF also extends it’s thanks to outgoing C Company CSM WO2 F Smith and congratulations to WO2 Miles who is now stepping into the role.
