Personal Camouflage and Movement

Starting with the basics, you’ll master how to blend into your surroundings and move silently and undetected. You’ll learn practical skills in personal camouflage and the techniques needed to move independently in the field.

Section-Level Tactics

Once you’ve mastered the basics, you’ll work as part of a team, learning how to communicate, coordinate, and tackle tactical scenarios together. This includes patrols, ambushes, and simulated combat situations, each exercise pushing you to learn and grow alongside your teammates.

Commanding a Section

For those looking to lead, fieldcraft offers a path to put your skills to the test. By reaching the top level, you could lead your own section through complex operations, manage strategy, and direct a team under challenging conditions.

From surveillance to ambushes, fieldcraft has it all: 

• Framework Patrol: Develop fundamental skills in structured patrols, where you’ll learn to navigate an area and work as a team. 
• Recce Patrol: Conduct surveillance to gather essential intel on enemy positions and identify safe locations for future missions. 
• Fighting Patrols: Engage in simulated operations where you search for unknown enemy positions and act on the spot. 
• Ambush and Attack: Hone your tactical positioning and strategy skills, carrying out coordinated ambushes and surprise attacks. 

Each exercise builds on the last, challenging you in new ways and helping you progress to become a capable and confident cadet. 

Fieldcraft is about more than just tactics. It’s a chance to build valuable life skills: 

• Teamwork and Leadership: Work effectively with others, learn to lead, and understand the importance of giving and following commands.
• Communication: Sharpen your communication skills to convey critical information clearly and accurately in high-stress situations. 
• Decision-Making and Problem-Solving: Learn to think on your feet, assess risks, and make smart, quick decisions.

During Fieldcraft exercises, you’ll put all your skills to use as you spend multiple days living outdoors. You’ll learn to set up shelters, manage your equipment, and prepare meals from ration packs, all while keeping high hygiene and safety standards.

Building a Shelter

Using a sheet shelter and simple materials, you’ll create two-person shelters that protect against the elements. Staying comfortable and prepared helps you rest up and stay ready for action.

Keeping Safe and Well-Fed

You’ll learn how to safely prepare meals in the field, stay hydrated, and keep your equipment clean and organised – essential skills for maintaining health and stamina.
