Cadet Foley Earns Her Tam O’Shanter

A milestone has been celebrated at Perth Viewlands Detachment, Black Watch Battalion ACF.

Cadet Foley was presented with her Tam O’Shanter (TOS) by Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant Reddie.

This achievement marks an important step in her cadet journey. It recognises her progress through initial training and her growing connection to the proud traditions of The Black Watch.

More Than Just a Bonnet

For Scottish Army Cadets, earning the Tam O’Shanter means much more than a change of headgear.

It represents commitment, discipline and perseverance. It also marks another step forward as cadets develop their skills, confidence and knowledge.

As a member of Alma Company, Cadet Foley can now proudly wear the distinctive headgear associated with the battalion and its regimental heritage, including the iconic Red Hackle.

This tradition builds a strong sense of belonging and pride. Cadets carry that pride with them at training events, parades and community activities.

And, of course, there is one familiar saying that captures it perfectly:

“It’s a toorie, nae a pom-pom!”

Congratulations, Cadet Foley! A fantastic achievement and a proud moment for Perth Viewlands Detachment.

Well done to SSgt Reddie and the instructional team for supporting her progress and helping her reach this milestone.
