For cadets this starts with the BTEC Level 1 and 2 in Teamwork and Personal Development in the Community, and for CFAVs it can progress to Level 7 City and Guilds Professional Recognition Awards in Leadership and Management, with a lot in between.
Some opportunities for our CFAVs presented themselves, which culminated in the Cadet Vocational College graduation ceremony this month, at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
Sergeant Instructor (SI) Vern Heighton from B (Tiger) Squadron has successfully completed the City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Education and Training. This qualification is an introduction to teaching and training. You will gain an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a teacher / trainer and will be able to plan and deliver sessions in your school, cadet unit or youth organisation using appropriate resources and teaching methods*.
SI Heighton has been a CFAV for 13 Years and is a keen musician, supporting the Squadron and County Corps of Drums at every opportunity. He used his experience and knowledge as a CFAV to successfully complete the Level 3 Award in Education and Training and demonstrates his commitment to supporting our cadets and CFAVs.
Maj Maria Walding, Assistant County Commandant, has successfully completed the Level 7 City and Guilds Professional Recognition Awards in Leadership and Management. Using experience and real-life examples of strategic leadership to write reflective account, the award, comparable to a Master’s Degree, covers six standards; Commitment to Professional Standards, Communication and Information Management, Leadership, Professional Development, Working with Others and Managing Customer Expectations.
Maj Walding had been a CFAV for 25 Years, commissioning in 2012. She has taken on many roles at area and county level, including Company Sergeant Major and Officer Commanding (OC) and County DofE, Music and Vocational Qualifications Officers. The experience gained has enabled her to complete this award, which is testament to her hard work, knowledge and dedication to the Army Cadet Force.
Although SI Heighton could not present, Maj Walding attended the graduation at The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, which was attended by Brigadier McDade and the National Col Cadet, Col Fulford, amongst other distinguished guests.
Also on the day, our County Vocations Qualifications Officer, Capt Nikki O’Brien was recognised with outstanding achievements certificate for the great work she has done over the past years to progress cadets and CFAVs through the variety of qualifications.
