Running tracks, the Wembley turf and a brand-new national competition. It has been a memorable few weeks for Berkshire Army Cadets.

From winning medals on the athletics track to standing pitch-side at England’s national stadium, Berkshire Army Cadets have embraced opportunities that challenged them, inspired them and created memories that will last long after the summer ends.

Regional Athletics Success

On 23 May, 17 cadets represented Berkshire Army Cadet Force at the Regional Athletics Championships, competing against cadets from across the region.

They returned with an impressive haul of medals, but the day wasn’t only about podium finishes. Every race, jump and throw demanded determination, resilience and teamwork. Cadets encouraged one another throughout the competition and proudly represented the county from start to finish.

Regional events like these allow cadets to test themselves, build confidence and discover just how much they can achieve when they push beyond their comfort zone.

Supporting the team were WO2 George-Vaughan, SSgt McIntyre and Sgt Colivile.

A Day to Remember at Wembley

Just over a week later, on 31 May, another group of Berkshire cadets experienced a day many football fans only dream about.

The day began at Watford FC’s training ground. Cadets rehearsed for the pre-match entertainment before travelling to Wembley Stadium for the Women’s FA Cup Final. They stepped onto the famous pitch, explored England’s national stadium and proudly took part in the spectacular pre-match show before settling down to watch the final.

For many, simply standing beside the pitch at Wembley was a moment they will never forget.

WO2 George-Vaughan reflected on the experience:

The reactions of the cadets were incredible. Some simply couldn't believe they were standing next to the pitch at Wembley, while others were overwhelmed with excitement and joy to be there

他补充道:

Opportunities like this show that Army Cadets offers so much more than military training. These are experiences many young people may never otherwise have, and it's fantastic to be able to give our cadets memories like these

Supporting the event were WO2 George-Vaughan, SSgt McIntyre, Sgt Tighe and Sgt Middlemist.

Making Their Mark at the Rivalry Sports Cup

On 6 June, Berkshire Army Cadets travelled to Altcar Camp for the National Rivalry Sports Cup. One of the newest additions to the Army Cadet sporting calendar. Now in its second year, the competition brings together counties from across the UK to compete in ten sporting disciplines that test teamwork, leadership, fitness and determination.

This year, 23 counties took part, making it the largest Rivalry Cup yet. For Berkshire, it was a debut appearance. Cadets embraced every challenge, gained valuable experience and competed with enthusiasm throughout the weekend.

While medals are always welcome, the biggest reward was the opportunity to learn, grow and compete alongside some of the best cadets in the country. Berkshire now hopes to build on this first experience by developing county selection events and returning even stronger next year.

WO2 George-Vaughan and SSgt McIntyre supported the Berkshire team throughout the competition.

More Than Military Skills

Athletics, football and national competitions may seem very different, yet they all share the same purpose. They help young people grow in confidence, develop resilience, build lasting friendships and discover what they are capable of achieving.

These experiences also highlight something many people don’t realise about Army Cadets. Alongside military skills and adventure training sits an extraordinary range of opportunities, from elite sporting competitions to unforgettable national events. For Berkshire Army Cadets, the last few weeks have been a perfect example of just how varied—and rewarding—that journey can be.
