Operation Ice Cream Brings a Chilled Surprise to Annual Camp

There was an unexpected and very welcome interruption to training at annual camp when the Operation Ice Cream special service vehicle rolled into the training area – bringing a delicious surprise for Clwyd & Gwynedd Army Cadet Force cadets.

In the middle of a busy programme of activities, the distinctive vehicle appeared and quickly became the centre of attention as cadets discovered that their next training serial was going to involve something rather more enjoyable than they had anticipated – ice cream!

The surprise was provided courtesy of BFBS, with Operation Ice Cream delivering a welcome taste of summer to cadets enjoying their annual camp.

Operation Ice Cream is a mobile ice cream service that has been bringing smiles to the Armed Forces community since 2010. During that time, the service has travelled more than 300,000 miles and served around 250,000 ice creams at military events, family days and cadet camps.

With its traditional vanilla-flavoured ice creams, Operation Ice Cream has become a firm favourite wherever it appears – and the reaction from the cadets at camp was no different.

One cadet summed up the surprise perfectly:

“I wasn’t expecting this during our exercise!”

Another was equally enthusiastic about the day’s activities, commenting:

“From tag archery to paintballing via an ice cream – great!”

The surprise provided a perfect opportunity for cadets and staff to take a well-earned break from the action, enjoy a refreshing treat and recharge before getting back to the packed programme of camp activities.

From outdoor challenges and adventurous activities to the occasional unexpected ice cream stop, annual camp continues to provide cadets with experiences and memories that will stay with them long after they return home.

A huge thank you goes to BFBS and Operation Ice Cream for making a busy day at camp just that little bit sweeter!
