Steps to Join the Army Cadets

Locate your closest detachment. We’ve got local units across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The first step is to complete the expression of interest form. This can be done by the prospective cadet, parent, or guardian. You will receive an email after submitting the form with next steps. There is an option to skip this and go straight to the application form.

The potential cadet parent or guardian needs to fill out the application form for the chosen detachment.

Once you’ve completed the application form, you’ll receive an email from the detachment outlining the next steps. This will include instructions on when to visit during a parade night to meet current cadets and instructors. During your visit, you’ll have the opportunity to experience some of the activities firsthand and ask any questions you may have about the programme.

New cadets typically undergo an introduction period where newcomers can experience the Army Cadets firsthand, participate in activities, and decide if it’s the right fit for them.

After completing your introduction and deciding the Army Cadets is right for you, you’ll receive your uniform and essential equipment at no cost. However, you may need to purchase appropriate boots separately.

Attend weekly parade nights and participate in weekend training camps, annual camps, and other activities designed to develop your skills and knowledge.
