After the excitement of annual camp over the summer our cadets have been back in action at their company weekends over September and October. These weekends after વાર્ષિક કેમ્પ are called mop-up weekends where cadets can have the chance at finishing subjects on the cadet syllabus that were not covered or not passed at annual camp so that they can complete their next Star level.

A Coy kicked things off in September with their mop up weekend including 1-Star ક્ષેત્રયાન and 2-Star weapons training. Cadets and staff had a productive and fun weekend, and Cadet Cowley gained her promotion to Cdt Sgt. Our congratulations go to Cdt Sgt Cowley!

B Coy were next, having their weekend in late September. Cadets had a busy weekend with assessments covering પ્રાથમિક સારવાર; military knowledge; drill and turnout; shooting air rifle and Small Bore Target Rifle and weapon handling tests. The latter applying as much to cadets as adults! In the background a Junior Cadet Instructor’s Cadre (JCIC) took place. This teaches 3-Star level cadets how to instruct new and 1-Star cadets in various activities.

C Coy had their weekend most recently in October. The weekend consisted of a wide range of activities for different star groups including air rifle shooting, fieldcraft, and માર્ગદર્શન for the Basic level cadets. Cadet Small Bore Target Rifle shooting and weapons training, along with some further સંચાર અને માહિતી પ્રણાળીઓ training for the 1-Star level cadets, a focus on fieldcraft and first aid for the 2-Star level cadets and finally an Emergency First Aid at Work course for the senior cadets, which they can use outside the cadets as a recognised qualification.

Overall C Company had over 12 star passes, a number of shooting awards and some Radio user awards too!

Well done to all cadets for taking part and being willing to persevere to complete their Star levels. As always a big thank you goes to our adult volunteers, without whom these weekends, and the cadet experience they provide, wouldn’t be possible.

With thanks to Sgt S Mills, WO2 T Burns and 2Lt S Garwood for their input into this article.
