The weekend of 20–22 June 2025, Devon ACF hosted the3rd annual tri-Service Cadet Challenge (TSCC) at Okehampton. Capt. Pete Pritchard organiser of the event said “The primary objective of the challenge was to strengthen links between the Joint Service cadet organisations and provide cadets with opportunities for team-building, leadership, and exposure to wide-ranging military/life experiencing subjects typically exclusive to training centres or annual camps.”
Taking part in the event were cadets from RAFAC, RMVCC, RMC, and SCC. The weather was the hot and humid weather and the cadets had to complete 12 challenges. In total the sections navigated a 3.7 km circuit in and around the camp on Saturday, checking in at seven different checkpoints with tasks including:
- Responding to a simulated road traffic accident
- Carrying loads and stores across simulated rivers and obstacles
- Completing map, compass, and observation challenges
- Setting up temporary OPs and delivering briefings based on information received on a local civil incident
- Handling a rescue scenario involving lost cadets
The evening included entertainment with bingo and a Special Forces memory mission where sections infiltrated an enemy headquarters to extract and memorise tactical information and forward onto their CoC.
On Sunday, participants faced wet weather but competed in three, two-section round-robin challenges including:
- A blind radio-assisted assault course
- A CPR challenge course
- “Noah’s Ark” course involving blindfolded participants herding “cows and sheep” into the Ark
Sunday concluded with group photos and awards. RAFAC Devonport emerged as overall winners, closely followed by RMVCC Stonehouse as runners-up. Cadet Cpl Milburn from T.S. Golden Hind Plymouth received a special award for best section commander.
Cadets worked together, built friendships, and developed leadership and teamwork skills so all were winners whilst the instructors shared networking opportunities and looked forward to returning in the future.
