This year’s Trafalgar Parade was a powerful moment of pride and remembrance for the Essex Army Cadets, who joined Sea Cadets and Air Cadets in commemorating Admiral Lord Nelson’s historic victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. Since 2017, Essex Army Cadets have been honored to receive an invitation from the Sea Cadets to take part in this annual event, which celebrates naval heritage and pays tribute to those who gave their lives in service.

Preparing for the Parade

Preparation was rigorous and purposeful. Cadets underwent two days of parade practice, selection, and uniform sizing, followed by a full day of drill training and dress rehearsal at Grosvenor Hall in Ashford. Alongside other cadet services, they refined every movement in rehearsals to ensure a polished and professional display.

A Historic Route and Ceremony

On parade day, cadets marched shoulder to shoulder through London’s iconic landmarks, including Horse Guards Parade Square, The Mall, and Trafalgar Square. The Sea Cadets carried the White Ensign (flag) from HMS Victory, the ship on which Nelson was fatally wounded, an enduring symbol of sacrifice and honor.

Honoring the Fallen

Poppy wreaths were laid in solemn tribute to those who fell in battle. The First Sea Lord, head of the Royal Navy, took the salute from the steps of Trafalgar Square, joined by other dignitaries and VIPs.

I am very proud of all of the cadets and the adults for their hard work and practice leading up to how professional they looked on the day. They did Essex and the Army Cadet Force proud. - RSMI Stuart Little

Community and Cadet Pride

22 Essex Army Cadets staged at Wellington Barracks before stepping off in formation whilst supported by 9 Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs). All cadets’ parents were in attendance, adding to the sense of community and support. Thousands of spectators lined the streets, with roads closed and police escorts ensuring the parade’s smooth progress.

Olhando para o futuro

Already invited to return next year, Essex Army Cadets continue to uphold the values of service, tradition, and excellence. The Trafalgar Parade is not just a ceremony, it’s a living legacy, and Essex Army Cadets are honored to be part of it.
