Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Expedition Weekend in Highland Perthshire
It was a fantastic weekend of adventure, challenge and achievement as Cadets took part in Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions across the beautiful landscape of Highland Perthshire.
The weekend brought together Cadets completing a range of expedition stages, including Silver Practice, Silver Qualifying and Gold Practice. Each expedition provided an opportunity to develop essential outdoor skills while putting navigation, teamwork and determination to the test.
Silver and Gold Expeditions
Throughout the weekend, Cadets tackled challenging routes across varied terrain, requiring them to put their expedition skills into practice.
For those completing their Silver Practice and Qualifying expeditions, the weekend provided valuable experience and an opportunity to demonstrate their preparation and navigation abilities.
Meanwhile, those undertaking their Gold Practice expedition faced their own challenges, building on the skills and experience they have developed throughout their DofE journey.
Although each group followed different routes and faced different challenges, they all shared the same goals: work together, navigate successfully and keep moving forward.
Navigation Skills Put to the Test
Navigation was a key part of the weekend. As the Cadets travelled through Highland Perthshire, they had to interpret their maps, identify features on the ground and make decisions about their routes.
Consequently, the expeditions provided an excellent opportunity to turn classroom and training-based knowledge into practical experience.
However, navigation is only one part of a successful expedition. Cadets also had to demonstrate resilience, communication, teamwork and the ability to overcome challenges along the way.
Adventure in a Beautiful Setting
Highland Perthshire provided a stunning backdrop for the weekend’s expeditions.
The varied landscape offered plenty of challenges, while also giving the Cadets the opportunity to experience the outdoors and enjoy the scenery along their routes.
Importantly, expeditions such as these encourage young people to step outside their comfort zones, become more self-reliant and discover what they are capable of achieving.
Teamwork Behind the Scenes
A successful DofE expedition relies on more than just the Cadets taking part. A dedicated team of staff and volunteers worked throughout the weekend to support the expeditions and help ensure everything ran smoothly.
A huge thank you goes to our Professional Support Staff (PSS) for their excellent support, as well as everyone else who gave their time, knowledge and expertise to make the weekend possible.
Challenge, Adventure and Achievement
Overall, it was a hugely successful weekend, combining challenge, adventure, learning and achievement.
Our Cadets demonstrated great commitment and resilience, while gaining valuable experience that will help them progress through their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award journey.
Most importantly, they returned with new skills, increased confidence and plenty of memories from a fantastic weekend in the great outdoors.
Well done to all our Cadets who took part, and thank you to everyone who supported them!
